McCoppin Hub Plaza was built with funding from the Central Freeway Project. The Plaza, along with the Soma West Skate Park and Dog Park, were part of a community vision to mitigate the effects of the freeway off ramp on street life, pedestrian and cyclist safety and community open space. The Plaza opened in August of 2014. Since then the neighbors and the City have identified a need for scheduled activities in the Plaza. After producing nine successful events in 2014, People in Plazas was awarded an extended grant from the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development to program events five days a week from May through October 2015.
